Jenna’s birthday party is one week away, and I still have lots to do to pull together the theme. The party is based on Charlie and Lola, a tv and book series featuring 7-year-old Charlie and 4-year-old Lola (another big brother/little sister rockabye baby duo!).
Rather than focus entirely on the characters, I’m also borrowing the collage style of paper cutouts, hand-drawing and photomontage to carry out the theme. I’m finding the theme to be both easy and challenging. With over 20 books and over 50 tv shows, the brother and sister duo have covered a lot of ground, and many of their undertakings rockabye baby translate well into party activities for children. The visual style also seems readymade for making hand-made party decorations. The challenge is pulling it all together into something cohesive and very fun. That’s what I’ll be working on this week!
And we’ll have a few activities involving “drawing and scribbling and sticking and painting and coloring,” including this toddler-friendly take on pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey: stick the flowers on Lola’s dress:
Oh My Gosh. I have been searching the web for Charlie and Lola birthday ideas and I came across your post. Thank you SO much for sharing! These are such incredibly cute ideas!! Please, if you dont mind, tell me how you did it all! Thanks, Lindsey
Thank you, Lindsey! I’m so happy to hear that you found my post helpful. I’ll definitely post more details about the projects soon. The party is this weekend so I’m still trying to finish everything in time

Hi! Thank you for all your wonderful ideas! Just wondering how you printed the ‘decorate Lola’s dress’ activity? I’ve been told I need a vector (not entirely sure exactly what that is myself!) to print something rockabye baby that big. Any chance you have one that you could forward to me? I would be ever so grateful! Otherwise, how else can you do it?? Thanks, Monika
